Rise for change
Co-Founder selected for social entrepreneurship programme by UNIDO/Fondazione cRT
RISE is a year-long mentoring and technical training program that fosters peer-to-peer support and collaboration, and leverages on an impressive network of like-minded professionals and extraordinary individuals.
The 2018 RISE programme began on the 28th November in Turin, Italy. All 21 participants gathered for an intensive, 8-day bootcamp. 18 different countries from the Euro-Mediterranean region were represented by young leaders who are seeking positive change in their countries and globally. The projects that were represented covered a range of topics from recycling in Lebanon, ethical fashion, vocational training for youth, and of course, capoeira for refugee children in Jordan.
“One thing that united the participants was our shared passion for social change and our commitment to being part of that change”, said CEO Lauren Hales.
The training was spearheaded by experts in social entrepreneurship, and brought mentors from various professions to give workshops on business modelling, financial planning, marketing, sales and even socio-emotional development for leadership skills.
Over the next year, Capoeira al-Shababi’s CEO will be participating in mentoring with world-renowned experts in their fields.
“My main goal for the next year is to develop momentum around our mission to bring psychological support to refugee youth in the Middle East. I know that I cannot do this alone, so I am immensely grateful to the RISE team and fellow participants for their generosity and support,” says Lauren.
She continues, “I face a lot of challenges and barriers as a young woman leading a start-up non-profit in Jordan. On top of that, my team and I work on the frontlines of the psychological impact of war and conflict, and we are not left untouched by the tragedies that are happening. The support I received from the RISE bootcamp was far more than a set of skills for professional development. It was a community of support that every young dreamer needs to keep fighting for a better world.”
